Rectal Specula & Retractors
Rectal specula and retractors have been developed for a variety of purposes. Simple designs for general examination and perhaps
simple surgery, more complicated/special designs for more special examination, surgery, deep surgery and special surgery.
The specula usually retract the sphincter by expansion in 1, 2 or 3 dimensions and most (except Czerny and Killian) can be fixed at
any stage of expansion. The Killian, a multipurpose item originally developed as nazal speculum, is very narrow and
suitable for children.
